I recently kicked off a new offline training cohort for VNR VJIET on Building Agentic AI applications. In the very first session, one student asked me a question that stayed with me.
The student said - everyone in my class is doing this Agentic AI training, so what is the special difference I am going to have? What makes me different from the rest of my class?
This question took me back to one of the defining moments of my own journey.
The unique idea that never came
During my BTech final year, I used to tell my project guide that I will come back with a unique idea. Days kept passing. I was not convinced that whatever I had thought of was unique enough. I kept searching, kept rejecting my own ideas.
The deadline to submit the abstract was approaching, and my guide called me. What my guide told me that day is something I still apply whenever I feel stuck.
My guide said - there are billions of people on this earth. There is a 200% chance that if you think of something, someone else out there, among those billions, is thinking of the same idea at the same time. Don't go behind a unique idea. Go behind execution.
Back to the student's question
That advice answered the student's question too. Everyone in that class might be learning the same theory of Agentic AI. Everyone might be going through the same modules, the same exercises, the same cohort.
But you don't differentiate yourself by what you learn. You differentiate by what you do with it - how you apply it, how you build with it, how you bring out real value through your execution.
The idea, the topic, the course - these will be common. What you do with them is where the difference actually shows up.
The takeaway
If you are ever stuck waiting for a unique idea to strike before you start, stop waiting. Pick what is in front of you and focus everything on how well you execute it. That is where you separate yourself from the rest.
